Cupcake Sunday

The Cupcake: Not a cupcake, but small and cute like a cupcake. It's a pistachio macaroon. I never had a macaroon before and it was so delicious! I'm going to try to make some when we get our own place.

A little about me: I found a second part- time job so I have been working a lot. It's another serving position, I have to wear a uniform at this one, which kind of blows, but the uniform could be alot worse!!
We are looking for a place to live but no luck yet!

Rainy Days

The weather in Toronto has not been as wonderful as I had hoped when I moved here. Today for example, rainy and cold. There is a huge difference between rainy days here and in St. John's: umbrellas. They are totally useless in St. John's because of all the stupid wind making rain completely unbearable. Toronto we can use umbrellas! Its make the rain almost enjoyable... almost.

I had a job interview today downtown so I had a bit of walk today and then me and my boyfriend decided to spend the rainy day at the mall which was torture! I have no money to speak of so actually buying stuff is out of the question. I can however, look but it's so annoying! I did however decided that when I get my first paycheck I may treat myself!

Lucky I still have lots of clothes that I hadn't really had a lot of chance to wear yet, for example this jacket. It's a rain parka from American Apparel and it's super comfortable and great for the rain day, but it isn't lined so it can be too cold to wear in Newfoundland. I wore it today and it was perfect. The umbrella added a touch of needed colour to my outfit, it's my sister's umbrella and it's so cute!

Cupcake Sunday

The Cupcake:
White chocolate mousse cupcake with raspberry filling from Metro. I'm eating in the park next to my sister's apartments.

A little update of me:
There isn't much to say actually, I've started training and I'm finding my way around the city pretty good. I was able to catch up with some old friends which was nice and I've started to look for an apartment, very exciting!

Bicycle Accessories

I love living in the city and I'm really excited to spend the summer here! A few days ago I bought my favorite summer accessory: a bicycle. I found a lovely vintage Raleigh three speed glider online and bought it from the nicest man, he even gave me a 'student discount.' I really like it and I can't wait to ride it. I'm definitely going to take some outfit pictures with it so everyone can see it. There are just a few things I need first, like a lock.

I've been to a few bike shops in the city and I there are so many cute things. I decided to make a little college of somethings I plan to get, I just have to do a little more scouting.

Here are a few things I Need!

1. A bicycle basket. I had one before on my old bike and I love it, no need to ride around with a backpack and get all sweaty! I love front ones because I can see what's going with stuff but they do throw the balance of your bike off slightly if you have a heavy load. The wicker ones are so cute I hope I can find one that is sturdy enough for me, but I will probably end up with a wire one again, it held up so good on my old bike.

2. A cute bag to go into the basket. If I do end up with a wire one I might make a bag that fits inside that is removable?? I'll have to think about that.

3. Cute water bottles. I'm going to get a a little holder to attach to my bike so I don't get dehydrated while riding. I also need to get a good bottle of sunscreen!

4. A bell. Apparently the fine for not having a bell in Toronto is $100, definitely getting one!

5. A helmet, safety is sexy. Head injuries are not!

6. Sunglasses. Important for summer in general, but especially while riding a bike, being blinded by the sun is not good.

7. American Apparel cycle shorts. I hope to get a cute pair I can wear under dresses and skirts while I ride. I really like the ones with lace at the bottom.

8. Silk flowers. I would like to decorate my basket with cute colourful flowers.

OK, that's it. Hopefully I'll get all these things soon so I can ride my bike everyday.

Cherry Blossoms

Last week we went to see the cherry blossoms in High Park. It's so nice to see flowers bloom, not much of that happens in St. John's (but you do get super green grass and trees from all the rain). There were a lot of people there to see the beautiful flowers, so I have lots of friends in my photos but it was unavoidable.

The weather was nice but it did rain a little, but it was warm and the sun would come out from time to time. We walked down from my sisters place to see the trees and then headed out for some brunch. I had pancakes with smoked ducked, blueberry compote and goat cheese. It was so good! If you are in Toronto you must try Barque. Everyone's food was so tasty, the only thing was the service was a little shitty.

I love this outfit but I did kind of feel like a cow girl. The skirt is new from H&M, it's so comfortable and pretty. I paired it with this denim button-up to keep a nice relaxed feel and of course I wore my Hunters since there was a chance of showers.

Cupcake Sunday

The Cupcake:
This is one of those mini peanut butter cupcakes from Starbucks. It was really good especially for only having 180 calories.

A Little About Me:
Its been almost a week since we moved to Toronto. I'm having a lot of fun so far. We saw a Blue Jays game, went for dim sum with my family, and saw the cherry blossoms. However, most of the week was spent walking around the city, getting to know the area and trying to find a job. Well I found one!! I start training on Tuesday for a server position at Utopia on college. I'm very excited.

Guest Post: Trends on Budget

Why is it that during the time in our life when we're supposed to be the most stylish and trendy we also happen to be the poorest? Like any student/working twenty-something I always find it easy to find cute outfits...just not ones in my price range. Anybody with me?
That's why I put these two looks together. They feature some of my favorite trends for spring, but also inexpensive pieces to boot.

Pastel Color blocking & Shorty Suits
Yes. Congratulations everyone. It's officially totally acceptable to wear a blazer with shorty shorts and high heels. Something I've been doing for quite some time (because I live in Texas and it's hot down here, ladies) but now Burberry, Phillip Lim, and Carven have got my back.
For the poor-starving-artist price range, check out the super cute blazers H&M just came out with like the one below. Also, pastels are making their presence known so get extra trendy points for rocking some pasty hues. Double extra points for colorblocking 'em.
Living's Easy

Floral Infinite Remix If I had to choose one new trend that I love the most, it would have to be the vengeful floral pattern revolution. This spring, we're actually encouraged to wear as many different patterned frocks at the same time as possible, the kitschier the better. Sure, all of the new tops I bought have patterns similar to my grandmother's 1950's taste in home furniture, but hey, I'm doing it for fashion. I was trying to find shoes that would go with this color-crazy ensemb, but then I realized, nothing goes better with this craziness than my converse chucks. Kristin Stewart would be so proud...

What trends are you most excited to get your hands on? For all you other fashionable ladies on a budget, you  keep fighting the good fight. xoxo brennan

Decor Love

My kitchen

My kitchen by kellylee on polyvore.com

Sorry for all the lack of post recently, moving and trying to find a job have completely over come by life right now. Except yesterday was nice, we went to see a Blue Jay's game which was pretty cool, I can't wait to go see another.

I'm staying with my sister in her two bedroom apartment in Toronto and she just moved in so I've been helping (or more like watching) her unpack the last few things and she still has to decorate. It's really helping me get excited to find a place of my own and start decorating. I created the above collage of things I would love for my kitchen and if you follow me on Pinterest you can see the rest of the room ideas.

I really want my apartment to be organized and super cute. I love girly cute touches of the kitchen but I think for living room and bedroom I'm going to try to keep it a little bit more grown up.

Cupcake Sunday

The Cupcake:
My sister made these cupcakes, she even made fondant to to put on top of the cupcake before topping them with many layers of buttercream frosting in yellow and blue.

A Little About Me:
Happy Easter everyone! I'm still in Ottawa, we spent the day visiting with family which was really nice, lunch with my sister and her husband, dinner with my aunts and uncles.  We leave tomorrow for Toronto and I'm so excited. We are staying with my older sister and her husband until we find our own place. I can't wait to get a place of own to decorate, I'm going to have to do a fun post of some of decorating ideas. Keep and eye out for it in the next week or so.

Vintage Military Jacket

I am chilling in Ottawa with my family before moving to Toronto and I'm loving the weather. It's not too much warmer then St. John's but the sun is shining and the wind isn't freezing there isn't fog and rain.

I was very excited to be able to wear this jacket. I have had it for a couple of years now, but the weather in St. John's was always too cold to wear it and then all of a sudden it would be to hot to wear. I bought it at the vintage store Model Citizen and I really love the colour, the cut and the detailing.

I kept my outfit very casual since I was wearing it to go couch shopping and moving and lifting heavy boxes would be required. But we bought a couch for our new apartment (even though we have no apartment yet). I'm really excited it about it and excited to decorate a new apartment. I'm going to have to save up a lot of money to get all the cute things I want, but it will be worth it.

Colour Blocking Houses

Today is my first full day in Ottawa. We are visiting with my parents for a week until we move to Toronto. Our flight was cancelled and before that our internet connection got cut off early so I apologize for the lack of post last week.

I wanted to sneak one last St. John's tribute post in here. I love the candy coloured houses in the downtown area of St. John's. They are so cheerful and beautiful. I love walking among them and seeing all the pretty Victorian-esque houses. It's actually a by-law that you cannot re-paint your house without getting the coloured approved by the town hall (for certain areas).

I wore this sweater from American Apparel because I thought it was appropriate, colourful houses, colourful sweater. Plus it's damn comfortable.

I'm really going to miss living in St. John's but I'm excited for a new chapter of my life to start. More on that later, for now enjoy the photos.

Cupcake Sunday

The Cupcake:
I made these using a box of organic vanilla cake. I used applesauce and egg whites again. The icing is canned chocolate frosting and I baked them in ice cream cones instead of the paper cupcake wrappers.

A Little About Me:
I apologize for the severe lack of post this week. I have one half written an another I planned to put up yesterday. This week was moving week, so I wand really busy with packing, cleaning and saying goodbyes. Then Saturday finally comes and there is a huge snowstorm and our flight got cancelled! Super annoying, especially since we had all our bags checked in already. We leave tomorrow instead and at least we got I spend one more day in St. John's I promise much more post next week!
